Opportunities to excel

Learning Enrichment Program

Harvest Christian Academy desires to educate the whole child through Kingdom Education. In order to meet the needs of all students, HCA’s Learning Enrichment Program is available to our families for an additional cost.

Believing that God created each child uniquely, HCA staff and support services collaborate to ensure that every child has a chance to succeed and reach their full potential for which they were created.

Program Descriptions

Classroom Support: We believe that every child is capable of success in the classroom, but some students need additional support. We offer classroom accommodations for students with…

    • Diagnosed Learning Disability
    • ADD
    • ADHD

Students in grades K-12 will be provided with strategies to assist themselves within the regular classroom. The classroom teacher, with the supervision of the Learning Enrichment Teacher, implements the student accommodations.

Math Recovery: The National Mathematics Advisory Panel has determined that there are essential components of math that every child should know and operate fluently, which will prepare them for higher mathematics. These include:

    • Proficiency with Number Operations
    • Place Value
    • Standard Problem-Solving Strategies
    • Generic Problem-Solving Skills
    • Fluency in Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division

HCA strives for every student to reach a level of fluency in each of these component areas. Under the guidance of the Learning Enrichment Program, students who need additional support will also reach a data proven level of fluency in these areas. We will determine what weakness a student has in their math repertoire and will work with the student to create a solid mathematical foundation for continued academic success. This program services students in grades K-12 that are continually struggling in their math classes. Students that would benefit from this program can be identified through a combination of Terra Nova scores, teacher/parent concerns and academic assessments.

Reading Recovery: The National Reading Panel published a scientifically research-based list of five essential components of reading:

    • Phonemic Awareness
    • Phonics
    • Vocabulary
    • Fluency
    • Comprehension

Available to grades K-12, students will practice and receive individualized instruction in these component areas. A mastery of each of these components will serve as a child’s solid foundation to build upon to become successful lifelong readers. This program services students that are continually struggling with reading. Students that would benefit from this program can be identified through a combination of Terra Nova Test scores, teacher/parent concerns and academic grades.

Dyslexia Services: HCA uses the Barton Reading and Spelling System to provide therapy for our dyslexic students. This is an Orton-Gillingham influenced simultaneously multi-sensory explicit and systematic phonics program. This 1-on-1, ten level tutoring system is supported by independent scientific research to greatly improve the spelling, reading, and writing skills of students who struggle due to dyslexia. HCA offers these services to students in grades K-12.

Gifted and Talented: The HCA Gifted and Talented Program provides an environment for students who exhibit traits and signs of high aptitude ability to have their social, emotional, and academic needs better challenged. The different abilities of each student are shaped and molded through participation in…

    • Small Groups
    • Research-Based Learning
    • Project-Oriented Classes

The G/T educator collaborates with classroom teachers to provide support for differentiating instruction and compacting curriculum to ensure an academically inspiring environment for these students. HCA offers this program to students in Grades 2-12. Each year, these students compete in Destination Imagination, a creativity competition starting in a regional setting and progressing towards the global finals.
