Texas Education Freedom Accounts
Texas’ Education Savings Account program, known officially as the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA), provides eligible families with state funds for approved educational expenses, including private school tuition. The Texas Comptroller administers the program and will provide the application portal and official guidance.

How Do We Apply?

The application portal is expected to open in early 2026 (tentatively February 4, 2026).

Sign up to receive updates at educationfreedom.texas.gov.

Begin gathering the following documentation needed to apply:

Proof of Texas residency (e.g., Texas driver’s license or state ID, recent utility bill or lease/mortgage statement)

Proof of household income (recent tax return or pay stubs) — needed especially for income-based priority tiers.

Student identity documentation (e.g., birth certificate or passport)

Immunization records (or approved exemption documentation)

If the student has a qualifying disability: documentation such as an IEP, a medical diagnosis, or an SSI/SSDI eligibility letter.
